Putting
Firstly, without exception, you will have a flaw in your technique that causes poor shots. This gradually becomes more ingrained and as this flaw in your technique gets worse you start to compensate for this in other areas of your setup and or stroke. You continue to get worse until you know you are not going to hit a good shot and eventually it gets into your head, you become jumpy when hitting your shot, you have a very poor mental attitude and you end up dreading a shot before you even get to your ball. You then get into a horrible circle of bad shots, causing more dread, leading to more bad shots… and so on.
There a many things that can cause the yips in your putting stroke. Here I have listed many, but not all of them:
• Head movement at impact or through the follow through.
• Incorrect ball position
• Incorrect hand position
• The wrong style of putter
• The wrong length of putter
• Incorrect stance width
• Poor alignment
• Head position
• Incorrect stroke theory
• Poor posture
• Grip pressure
• Weight movement in the stroke
How to get rid of The yips:
I firstly start by identifying the flaws in your technique that started the process in developing your Yips. With this fault corrected I then introduce you to your own specific Unyippable technique, which, when done correctly will be impossible to Yip from. With a little practice you will then learn that you can play these horror filled shots not only without yipping but also with good effect.
You will then start onto a positive cycle of hitting good shots, gaining confidence, hitting better shots and getting even more confidence. You then, believe it or not, actually start looking forward to playing these shots to prove to yourself and others that you have conquered your Yip and can now play these shots wonderfully.
Once I have got you onto this positive cycle I will then introduce you to some practice drills specific to you that will accelerate your learning and get you so positive that your enjoyment of the game will go through the roof, and you will feel that you have a new lease of life on the golf course.
It is that simple.
