PostHeaderIcon Choosing The Correct Putter

I would advise anyone who is looking to buy the right putter for them to go and get fitted properly by their professional. Getting the correct length of putter is vitally important as well as getting one that sits correctly at address. Grip size is all important as well, but is more personal preference than scientific.
One thing that many amateurs and professionals over look is finding a correctly balanced putter. There are generally 2 types of putter as far as balance is concerned.

Firstly there is Heel-toe weighted which when held in the hand will lie ( as the photo shows) with the face at an angle to the horizontal.

The second type of putter is the Face balanced putter. The face will lie square when held in the hand as the picture shows:

These 2 types of putter will suit different strokes.
If your stroke goes straight back and through on the target line then you will require the face balanced model. This will help to keep the face square through the stroke.

If your stroke path comes inside the line on the backswing – back to square at impact -  then to the inside once again on the follow through, then the heel-toe weighted putter will be more suited to your stroke.

I have seen people develop the yips simply because their putter balance doesn’t match their stroke and therefore have to compensate by using the hands in the technique to try to square the blade at impact.
